Year 12 student, Warwick Purton, is the first Tasmanian student to be selected to attend the Galuwa experience. He was flown to Sydney for a week of engineering and IT activities and workshops at the UTS and surrounding areas.
The activities included workshops on app design, robotics and structural design. There were industry site visits, which included a trip to the Garden Island military facility to see their dry dock, its construction, how it works, and the various planning processes involved. Another industry site visit was to the Apple headquarters, where participants were shown how to develop an idea for an app, looking at the design process through to the final product.
The final ‘graduation’ dinner was held at the Powerhouse Museum. The Powerhouse Museum had a theme of the first moon landing in honour of the 50th anniversary.
