Semko attends International Science School
Congratulations to Semko Van de Wolfshaar. Semko was one of three students chosen from Tasmania to participate in the International Science School (ISS) hosted by the Faculty of Science at The University of Sydney.
The ISS is a bi-annual program attended by 130 students from various countries around the world. Semko used his school holidays to experience international science firsthand. The theme for this year’s school was 'Frontier Science', and a wide variety of lecturers such as Jocelyn Bell Burnell(Astrophysicist, Nobel Prize 2018), Matt Abbott (Flight Director, NASA) and Denis Bauer (Geneticist, CSIRO) covered different fields of discovery worldwide. From quantum computing, particle physics and astrophysics to gene mapping, nanoscience, machine learning and climate change.

"It was an amazing trip and I’ve made friends from all around the world. If you’re a year 11 interested in science, I would recommend applying for ISS as it is definitely worth it."
