National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

18 August was the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. This year’s theme is ‘Growing Connections’ and promotes the strong links and social connection in our school communities as effective ways to address and combat bullying.

We are extremely proud of what we have achieved together as a school community to make everyone feel included and safe. Of course, we all have a right to feel and be safe.

Today, may be a good day for you to have a conversation about bullying and violence at school and ask them if they feel safe and supported or have experienced or observed bullying in anyway. We can respond to concerns that are highlighted to is.

Unfortunately, bullying and violence is more than a school issue.  It is an issue for our entire community, and we all have an important role to play. We are stronger when we work together.

To find out more about National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, visit the Bullying No Way website.  I have also attached a fact sheet with some helpful information.

If this letter had raised any concerns for you or your child, I encourage you to seek advice and support from one of the following organisations:

John Thompson is always available to talk and if you would like to speak to him about this on an individual basis, please get in touch.

On Friday, the college experienced a powerful moment as we stood united against bullying and violence on the National Day of Action. This year the theme is 'Growing Connections’, a testament to the strength we find when we come together as a community.
We were lucky enough to have a visit today from Roger Jaensch MP, Minister for Education, Children and Youth of Tasmania as part of the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. He was greeted by the friendly faces of our wonderful student leaders and was able to gain their perspective on these important issues. Also in the spotlight were our exceptionally talented Musical Theatre students who performed a medley of songs from our successful musical, ‘School of Rock’. This resonated with the spirit of unity and connection that thrives within our college and the extended community.
He also spoke with our dedicated Community Services students who created a ‘Tree of Hope’ in the front foyer to symbolise the bonds and resilience we share. Students and staff were asked to write positive messages to adorn the tree. We hope these words of encouragement blossom on the vibrantly coloured hearts featured on the magnificent 'Tree of Hope'. Our Don community were also asked to take a stand against bullying by signing our anti-bullying pledge, a pledge that echoes our commitment to fostering an environment of respect, empathy and inclusion.
